LANCERS CAPTAIN CHIASSON COMMITS TO MICHIGAN
Monday, May 23, 2011 - Submitted by Dan Fremuth

OMAHA, NE – The Omaha Lancers of the United States Hockey League (USHL) are pleased to announce that veteran defenseman Mike Chiasson has committed to the University of Michigan and will join the Wolverines in the Fall of 2011.  Chiasson, a third-year blueliner and captain of the 2010-2011 Lancers, registered seven goals, 20 assists, 90 penalty minutes (PIM) and a +23 rating in 122 career games in Omaha.  This past season, the Henderson, Nevada native recorded career highs in goals (four), assists (11), points (15) and penalty minutes (41).  Chiasson registered a positive +/- rating in each of his three seasons in a Lancers uniform, including a career-high +12 posting in 56 games during the 2009-2010 campaign.

Originally drafted with the 31st overall selection (Round 3) in the 2007 USHL Futures Draft, Chiasson’s efforts were annually acknowledged by his teammates.  After receiving the Ted Baer Most Improved Player Award following his rookie season, the future Michigan Wolverine earned the E.H. “Motto” McLean Leadership Award this past season.  Before coming to Omaha, Chiasson spent time with the Nevada Stars Midget AAA team where he notched 19 goals, 24 assists and 43 points in just 58 games.

With the announcement, Chiasson becomes the 15th Lancers skater from the 2010-2011 roster to commit to a Division I college hockey program.

Season tickets for the 2011-2012 season of Omaha Lancers hockey are currently on sale!  For more information, contact the Lancers front office at 402-344-7825, ext. 1 or visit www.lancers.com.
