FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Ralston, NE – The Omaha Lancers defeated the Sioux City Musketeers 3-0 at Ralston Arena Thursday in the Pre-season opener. It was the debut for new Lancers Head Coach David Wilke.
The game was scoreless until Connor Marshall scored midway through the second period. Marshall broke through a number of Sioux City defenders to take a breakaway pass from Christian O’Neill and beat Sioux City goaltender Matt Jurusik to put Omaha up one. Soon after, Brendan Furry (unassisted) put another one on the board, sneaking the puck through the legs of Jurusik in the second period.
In the third period, Omaha stayed on the attack and kept Sioux City from building any momentum. Late in the third, Joey Abate sealed the win with a quick snipe to put the Lancers up 3-0. Jack Randl took the puck into the neutral zone, passed it up to Aleksi Peltonen who then came in hard on Jurusik. Peltonen took a shot that was deflected and then Joseph Abate claimed the loose puck and snapped it home.
The Lancers got solid goaltending with Zach Driscoll stopping all 20 shots he faced. It marks Driscoll’s first shutout of the pre-season.
The Lancers will be taking on in-state rivals, the Lincoln Stars, in the second exhibition game of 2017. That game is on Saturday, September 16th 7:05 pm at Ralston Arena.
