Lancers fall in Fall Classic opener to Stampede

Cranberry Township, PA -- The USHL Fall Classic is underway in Pittsburgh. Omaha’s first opponent over the weekend was the Sioux Falls Stampede at UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex Thursday afternoon.

The first period was quiet until Sioux Falls Forward, Kirill Panyukov slipped the puck past Zach Driscoll, giving Sioux Falls a 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission.

In the second period, Reid Stefanson put another point on the board for Sioux falls with twelve minutes left, giving Sioux Falls a 2-0 lead.

The Sioux Falls attack didn't let up. Midway through the third period, Khristian Acosta slid the puck past a fully sprawled out Driscoll to give the Stampede a 3-0 lead. Three minutes later, Artem Ivanyuzhenkov broke past the Lancer defense to score on a breakaway, putting the score at 4-0. Late in the final period, Omaha finally found the back of the net when Cameron Reagan scored with two minutes left in the game. Sioux Falls took the win 4-1.

The Lancers return to action tomorrow to face the Fargo Force at 10 a.m. EST at UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex. You can catch that game on Hockey TV.
