Lancers beat Force in OT, 3-2

Cranberry Township, PA -- The Fall Classic continued Thursday as the Omaha Lancers faced the Fargo Force at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex.

The Lancers opened the scoring early as Cole Gallant got the puck past Strauss Mann. Noah Cates brought the puck up the left-wing on the 2-on-1. Cates then passed the puck past the defender to Gallant, who put Omaha up 1-0. Late in to the first period, Griffin Loughran scored on a breakaway beating Christian Sbaraglia to tie the game at 1.

In the second period, the Lancers took the lead on Gallant’s second of the game. The play started with a pass from Cameron Reagan to Noah Cates. Cates shot the puck and Gallant found the rebound in traffic at the top of the crease and roofed it to put the Lancers up 2-1.

Midway through the third period, John Schuldt found the back of the net to tie the game 2-2 to force overtime.

Halfway through the OT period, Danny Petrick was open to get the pass and blast a shot past Mann. Christian O’Neill was pinned against the near-side board when he passed the puck out to a wide open Petrick who made no mistake, giving the Lancers a hard fought 3-2 overtime victory.

The Lancers return to play tomorrow at 10 a.m. ET against Team USA U18 at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex.
