Ralston, NE -- The Omaha Lancers fell hard to the Sioux Falls Stampede Friday at Ralston Arena. Sioux Falls dominated Omaha in all aspects of the game with a final score 7-2. The Lancers fall to 0-2-0 while Sioux Falls trotted out of Omaha 2-1-0.
Sioux Falls began the scoring early into the first period when Reid Stefanson rifled the puck past Christian Sbaraglia. Minutes later the Lancers tied the game with a power-play goal from Ethan Price. With 6:10 left to play in the first, Nolan Walker found the back of the net to get Sioux Falls on the board again before the first intermission.
The Lancers tied the game up when Noah Cates scored on a power-play with 11:09 left to play in the second period. Sioux Falls soon answered back with back to back goals from #25 on the power-play and #10 three minutes later to put Sioux Falls up 4-2. Sbaraglia was then replaced by Zach Driscoll who finished out the period.
Sioux Falls entered the third period on a 5-on-3 power-play. Unable to capitalize, the Lancers returned to full strength. Moments after, Khristian Acosta snuck the puck past Driscoll to give the Stampede a 5-2 lead. The Sioux Falls attack continued when Reid Stefanson rang in his second of the night. Then with 1:30 left to play, Artem Ivanyuzhenkov scored to give the Stampede a 7-2 victory.
The Lancers return to play on Saturday when they travel to Cedar Rapids Ice Arena to face the Cedar Rapids Roughriders at 7:05 pm. Fans can listen to that game live on News Talk 1290 and on Hockey TV.
