Lancers Dominate USA, 6-1

Ralston, NE -- The Omaha Lancers welcomed Team USA NTDP to Ralston Arena on Saturday night. It was “Leap for a Cure” sponsored by Methodist Health Systems to raise brain cancer awareness, the Lancers also wore special Leap for a Cure jerseys at Saturday nights game. Another new face was welcomed to the lineup Saturday as Grant Anderson got his first start as a Lancer. Anderson was acquired by Omaha from a trade with the Green Bay Gamblers and is also a committed to play college hockey at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Vinnie Purpura played between the pipes for the Lancers. 


In the first period, Noah Cates scored his 3rd goal of the season. Cates found a rebound then sniped it past Cameron Rowe to give the Lancers a 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission.


The Lancers kept the attack in full throttle in the second. Cole Gallant got his 4th goal of the season with an assist from Filip Suchy. Suchy took the puck at the top of the slot, faked the shot and then passed it to Gallant to tap it in past Rowe. Gallant returned the favor to Suchy minutes later when he found Suchy on the breakaway. Suchy faked the shot and dragged the puck to the side and slide it past Rowe. The Lancers weren't done though in the second period. Brendan Furry got his 5th goal of the season on the power play to give the Lancers a 4-0 lead heading into the second intermission.


In the third period, Filip Suchy got his second of the night when Cole Gallant fed him the puck for a one time shot to beat Rowe. With 9:12 left to play, USA Marshall Warren beat Vinnie Purpura to get USA on the board late. Then with 3:32 left to play Noah Cates got his second goal of the game when the Lancers were on the power play. The Lancers won Saturday nights matchup, 6-1. Vinnie Purpura made 17 saves for Omaha.
