Lancers beat Stampede in OT, 3-2

Sioux Falls, SD -- The Omaha Lancers traveled north to face to the Sioux Falls Stampede Saturday night. Omaha continued their winning streak (7 games) with a 5-2 win Friday night against the Des Moines Buccaneers, while Sioux Falls came into the match with a Friday night loss. The Lancers continue to climb up the ranks sitting at fourth place with 25 points coming into the matchup and a 12-7-1-0 record. Sioux Falls sat in third place with 27 points and an 11-7-3-2 record. Zach Driscoll received the nod to play between the pipes.

In the first period, AJ Villella opened up the scoring for the Stampede with 8:45 left to play. Omaha answered back quickly when Aleksi Peltonen got his first goal in the USHL with 5:18 left.

Following a scoreless second period, Cole Gallant broke the tie late in the third period. That was the captain's 6th goal of the season. As the period neared the end, Sioux Falls pulled Jaxson Stauber from the net to get the extra attacker. With a blast from the point, Reid Stefanson tied it up with 1:34, which would cause the game to go into over-time.

In overtime, the Lancers held the puck for most of the overtime period. They limited the Stampede attempts and continued to put pressure on Stauber. With 1:14 left in the OT period, Filip Suchy snapped the puck past Stauber to give the Lancers the 3-2 win. Suchy now has seven goals and 10 points in his last three games. The Lancers improve to 13-7-1-0 and bring the winning streak to 8 games. Zach Driscoll stopped 22 of the 24 shots he faced. The Lancers are now just one point out of third place in the Western Conference.
