Ralston, NE - The United States Hockey League (USHL) has named Omaha Lancers Head Coach David Wilkie to the 2018 USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game Coaching Staff on Jan. 8-9 at the Viaero Center in Kearney, Neb.

“It’s a great feeling and tremendous honor to be selected as a coach in the 2018 Top Prospects game,” Wilkie said.

Wilkie enters his first USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game to serve as an assistant coach for Team West. Wilkie is in his first year as Head Coach of the Lancers, and has lead the team to a 13-7-1 record in 21 games, along with an 8 game win streak. Wilkie was the Omaha AAA Hockey Club's Director of Hockey Operations, U18 Head Coach and U16 Head Coach.  In seven seasons at Omaha AAA, he compiled an overall record of 570-192-32 as the program became a national powerhouse under his leadership.  In the last seven seasons, 92 players have advanced to the Junior A Tier 1 or Tier 2 ranks, 44 players received NCAA Division 1 commitments, and four players were selected in the NHL Draft.  Wilkie’s teams won a total of 34 major championships in 12 years of coaching in Omaha including four Central District championships, ten Midwest District championships and medaled six times at the USA Hockey National tournament. Wilkie is the 12th Head Coach in Lancers history and the first former Lancer player and Clark Cup champion (1990-1991) to take the reins behind the bench.

“I would like to thank the Omaha Lancers, the USHL and most importantly my players for helping me receive this coaching opportunity,” Willkie said.

With the addition of David Wilkie, the Lancers’ Jack Randl and Travis Mitchell will be playing under their head coach for Team West. Randl, a University of Michigan commit, was recently playing for Team USA in the WJAC where he notched a goal for the Red, White, and Blue. Mitchell, a Cornell University commit and electric defenseman for the Lancers, has played 17 games with Omaha and has a +19 rating so far this season.
