FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
RALSTON, NE -- The Omaha Lancers returned to the ice on Friday to face the Des Moines Buccaneers. This was the fourth time these two teams have faced each other this season. Omaha has won the three previous meetings. Jesper Peltonen returned to the Lancers lineup after serving a suspension for “Fighting with under 5 Minutes.” Omaha called on Vinnie Purpura to play between the pipes. Purpura is 7-0-0-0 since November and is ranked among the top goaltenders in the USHL with a 2.10 GAA and a .920 SV%. This was Purpura’s second time in net against the Buccaneers, winning the last matchup, 5-2.
After a scoreless first period, it was Des Moines to break the ice. Scooter Brickley sniped the puck past Vinnie Purpura on the power-play. The Buccaneers scored again on another power-play midway through the second period to take the 2-0 lead.
The third period was scoreless until Omaha pulled Purpura for the extra attacker. Eric Otto capitalized on the empty net and gave the Buccaneers the win, 3-0.
Vinnie Purpura stopped 29 of the 31 shots that he faced. Lancers are now 18-10-2-0 on the season.
