3rd time Zach has received honor

RALSTON, NE - The USHL announced the Forward, Defenseman, and Goaltender of the Week for Week 17 of the 2017-18 season. For the third time this season, Zach Driscoll was named to the weekly honor. He shares this week's honors with Defenseman, Ben Finkelstein (Waterloo) and Forward, Matthew Barry (Youngstown).

“It’s a cool individual honor, but this weekend was a really good weekend for our team,” Zach Driscoll said. “It was big for us to come out of a three-in-three with five out of six points.”

Driscoll stopped 61 of the 62 shots he faced in two starts, including stopping all 25 shots he faced to lead Omaha to a 6-0 shutout of Lincoln on Friday. That was his fifth shutout of the season, before making 36 saves on 37 shots to lead the Lancers to a road win and a sweep of the home-and-home series with the Stars.

“The shoutout is a reflection of how well our team defends. Our PK has been outstanding and I think our success stems from hard work. We work hard in practice and when we bring that work to a game for all 60 minutes,” Driscoll said.

The Bemidji State commit improved his record to 12-5-0-5 with his two victories on the weekend and currently sports a stellar 1.79 GAA and .935 SV% in 21 appearances, both second among all USHL goaltenders in their respective categories along with his five shutouts.

“Zach has continued to be a tremendous player for our team this year and this past weekend was no different,” Head Coach David Wilkie said.

He has compiled an impressive 10-2-1-0 record in his last 14 starts and has allowed more than two goals just once since Nov. 10. This is Driscoll's third USHL weekly honor this season, and the second award in four weeks, as he was named Goaltender of the Week on Nov. 13 and Jan. 8. Driscoll in his second stint with the Lancers, as he appeared in 18 games for Omaha during the 2014-15 season.

“We are happy for Zach to earn this league recognition once again, he deserves it,” Head Coach David Wilkie said.

The Apple Valley, MN native has also played for St. Cloud State University, the Penticton Vees (BCHL), Austin Bruins (NAHL) and Eastview High (USHS) in addition to his time in the USHL. He was originally selected by the Lancers in the fourth round, 52nd overall of the 2013 USHL Phase I Draft.

“We have a really great team this year, both on and off of the ice. Guys are all buying in and working towards a similar goal, and that’s what makes teams successful,” Driscoll said.

Zach and the Lancers return to action this weekend for a doubleheader with the Central Illinois Flying Aces.
