Ralston, NE -- The USHL announced the Forward, Defenseman, and Goaltender of the Week for Week 18 of the 2017-18 season. For the first time this season, Travis Mitchell was named to the weekly honor. The Defenseman shares this week's honors with Forward, Tristan Ashbrook (Lincoln Stars) and Goaltender, Strauss Mann (Fargo Force).
“It’s very exciting to get recognized with such a great honor from the USHL,” Travis Mitchell said.
Last weekend against the Flying Aces, Mitchell recorded 3 points and a +7 rating.
“We are very happy for Travis to get this League recognition,” Head Coach David Wilkie said.
This season, Mitchell has played 29 games for the Lancers and has contributed 2 goals and 8 assists. He also paces the entire USHL in plus/ minus, with an impressive mark of +20.
“I take great pride in my +/-, but I wouldn’t have the success without the help of my team,” Mitchell said.
Mitchell started his USHL career in his home state of Michigan with the Muskegon Lumberjacks.
“Since his arrival on our team he has been a major defensive presence, outstanding worker and is an important player for our team this season,” David Wilkie said.
Mitchell also played in the 2017-18 USHL/NHL Top Prospects game this year where he recorded 1 assist and was named to the NHL Central Scouting Preliminary List as a C-rated skater. Mitchell is committed to play college hockey at Cornell University.
The Lancers are now first place in the USHL Western Conference and are on a 7-2-0-1 in their past ten games.
“We’ve come a long way since the start,” Mitchell said. “It’s taken a lot of hard work and dedication, but I know every guy has bought into the system that has been set in place.”
Mitchel is the fourth Lancers to earn the USHL honor (Nick Perbix, Filip Suchy, Zach Driscoll) and the second week in a row the Lancers have been recognized by the league.
