Randl Named to U.S. Under-18 Select Team

Forward to Represent Team USA at Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup Tournament

Ralston, NE Omaha forward Jack Randl was named to the USA Under-18 Select Team that will compete at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup Tournament, August 7-12 in the Czech Republic.

Randl, 17, recorded 19 points (9g, 10a) with the Lancers during his rookie year in the USHL. A Carpentersville, IL native Randl tendered with the Lancers prior to the 2016-17 USHL season.

This will be the second consecutive summer that Randl will represent Team USA after playing in the Five Nations Tournament at the U-17 level last summer. Randl averaged a point per game in the four-game tournament (1g, 3a).

The 2017 Ivan Hlinka includes teams from eight countries – the United States, Canada, Czech Republic, Finland, Russia, Slovakia, Sweden and Switzerland. Last season Team USA was topped by the Czech Republic, 4-3 (OT) in the championship game of the tournament.

Rydstrom Commits to Prince Edward Island

Forward Set to Join Panthers for 2017-18 Season

Ralston, NE –Former Lancers captain Filip Rydstrom committed to attend the University of Prince Edward Island (Canada) the forward announced on Monday morning.

Rydstrom, 20, led the team with 34 points in his first season in the USHL. The captain joined the Lancers after spending the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons with the Charlottetown Islanders in the QMJHL. In 118 games with the Islanders the Vallentuna, Sweden native notched 67 points (29g, 38a). Rydstrom played two games with the Indy Fuel (ECHL) at the conclusion of the 2016-17 season, recording a pair of assists.

"This is a great opportunity for me moving forward in hockey and life,” said the former Omaha captain. “I played in PEI for two years during my junior career, and I loved my time there. I’m looking forward to going back.”

UPEI is a member of the Atlantic University Sport Conference of Canada’s U Sports (formerly CIS-Canadian Interscholastic Sport), the governing body for Canadian collegiate athletics.

Flyers Draft Cates in Fifth Round

Forward Taken in 5th Round of NHL Draft

Ralston, NE –Lancers forward Noah Cates became the latest active Lancer to hear his name called at the NHL Draft on Saturday as the Philadelphia Flyers took the Stillwater, MN native with the 137th pick in the 2017 NHL Draft Saturday afternoon.

“I’m very honored to be selected by such a great organization as the Philadelphia Flyers,” said Cates on Saturday afternoon. “I’m excited to get a chance to take the next step in my hockey career, starting with Omaha next season!”

Cates, a Lancers affiliate during the 2016-17 season, finished his high school career with the Stillwater Ponies (MN) recording 65 points in 25 games. After the high school season the forward joined the Lancers for 11 games, netting seven points (2g, 5a). Cate also played two games with the Lancers at the end of the 2015-16 season, scoring once.

The Minnesota-Duluth commit is expected to report to Omaha for the 2017-18 season.

In addition to Cates former Lancer Jacob Bryson (4th round, 99th overall) was drafted by the Buffalo Sabres, and Nick Perbix, Omaha’s first round pick in the 2017 Phase II USHL Draft, was selected by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 6th round (169th overall).
