Lancers beat Force in Shootout, 4-3

Fargo, ND — The Omaha Lancers traveled north to face the top-ranked Fargo Force on Saturday. The Lancers welcomed a new face as defenseman, Greg Japchen played in his first USHL game. Omaha also called on Vinnie Purpura in between the pipes.

After a scoreless first period, Jack Randl got Omaha on the board midway through the second period. Fargo answered back quickly though when Mark Senden found the loose puck to sneak it past Vinnie Purpura. Late in the second, the Lancers answered on the power-play when Ethan Price got a rebound and blasted it past Ryan Bischel. Omaha lead 2-1 heading into the second intermission.

The Force tied it up in the third period with a goal from Sammy Steele. Fargo got their first lead of the game when Spencer Meier scored with 6:05 left in the third. Omaha answers though, when Cole Gallant found the puck in traffic to get the game tied 3-3.

After the scoreless overtime, the Lancers and Force went to a shootout. This was the first shootout for Omaha in the 2017-18 season. After Bischel stopped shots from Gallant, Suchy, and Perbix, Noah Cates stepped on the ice. Cates took off from center ice, came in on the right side then drove hard and put the puck past Bischel to give the Lancers the 4-3 win.

Vinnie Purpura stopped 30 of the 33 shots he faced.
