MIDDLETON, WI - After three periods of regulation, an overtime frame, and a six-round shootout, the Omaha Lancers defeated the Madison Capitols 4-3 on Sunday.
In the first period, the Lancers capitalized on two power-play opportunities. Grant Anderson (14:38) scored the first goal for the Lancers followed by a goal from Jan Kern (19:44) to get a 2-0 lead ending the first period.
The Capitols got on the scoreboard with two goals seconds away from each other to even the game 2-2.
In the third period, Jaxon Nelson (2:44) earned the Lancers a 3-2 lead. Nearing the end of the period, on the power-play and with an empty net, the Capitols evened the game 3-3 at 19:02 to force overtime.
No goals were scored in the extra frame, which forced a shootout. Four shooters went for both squads who could not find twine. Harry Roy, the fifth shooter for Omaha scored on his turn. Madison called on Robert Blueger to keep the shootout going, as he was successful scoring on Schmid. Aleksi Peltonen was the sixth shooter for Omaha and netted a perfect shot on Mackay. The Capitols looked to Kristof Papp to extend the shootout, but could not get past Schmid. The Lancers closed the weekend in Wisconsin with a win in Madison, 4-3.
The Lancers are now 26-24-4-4 on the season with 60 points. Omaha still sits at 7th place, 3 points now behind the Sioux City Musketeers.
