RALSTON, NE - The Omaha Lancers have announced today the hiring of Joe Pionk as the teams Equipment Manager. Pionk was the team's Assistant Equipment Manager during the 2018-19 season.
“I am unbelievably humbled and grateful to be apart of a first-class organization such as the Lancers,” Joe Pionk said. “I am incredibly eager to work with such a great staff from top to bottom, and I am ready to bring the Clark Cup home to Omaha!”
Pionk, a Hermantown, MN native, was previously at Hermantown High School (MSHSL) he worked as a student equipment manager for 2 years.
“Joe did a terrific job for us last year as the Assistant Equipment Manager,” Head Coach and General Manager David Wilkie said. “He is extremely knowledgeable and has a tireless work ethic. Whenever we can, we try to promote from within and this opportunity is one that is completely warranted and deserved by Joe.”
Over this summer, Joe spent time as an assistant equipment manager with the New York Rangers during the teams 2019 Development Camp.
The Pionk name should ring a bell with Lancers fans as Joe has previous family ties to the team with his father, Scott Pionk who served as the Assistant Coach to the Lancers from 1992-1998. The Pionk family also have ties with the USHL’s Sioux City Musketeers with Joe’s older brother, Neal, who played for the Musketeers and currently plays for the Winnipeg Jets.
Pionk will take his reigns behind the bench starting on Tuesday, September 10th when the Lancers take on the Topeka Pilots (NAHL) for the first preseason game of the 2019-2020 season at Ralston Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 pm on the Auxiliary Ice Rink.
