RALSTON, NE - The Omaha Lancers announced today that the club has made a trade with the Madison Capitols for Defenseman Christian Berger.
The Lancers traded Forward Cole Kodsi, Affiliate Forward Barrett Brooks, Affiliate Forward Shawn O’Donnell, a 2020 3rd Round Phase II, and a 2021 1st Round Phase 2 Draft Pick to the Capitols.
Berger, a St. Louis, MO native, played in 61 games last year with the Capitols. The Defenseman recorded 19 points on the season (8 Goals, 11 Assists). While in high school at St. Louis University High, Berger scored 41 points in 48 games. He also was a part of the St. Louis Jr Blues U18 and U16 squads where he put up impressive numbers with both. The 6-foot-1-inch, 181-pound defender is committed to Penn State University.
Kodsi, who was traded to the Lancers last season from the Chicago Steel, played in 53 games, totaling 10 points on the year.
“Cole was a terrific Lancer," General Manager and Head Coach David Wilkie said. "We would like to thank him for his outstanding effort and commitment to the team last year after coming over to us from Chicago."
Brooks, an affiliate forward, played in 6 games with the Lancers over the past two seasons, recording 1 point.
O’Donnell, who was drafted by the Lancers in the 6th round of the 2019 Phase I Draft, played 37 games with the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite U16 squad, and tallied 21 points on the season.
"Barrett Brooks and Shawn O’Donnell were strong prospects for us as well," Wilkie said. "We felt that the team needed another veteran presence on the blue line and the opportunity to acquire a player like Berger doesn’t come around very often. We would like to welcome Christian and his family to our Hockey Club."
Preseason starts on Tuesday, September 10th when the Lancers take on the Topeka Pilots (NAHL) at Ralston Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 pm on the Auxiliary Ice Rink.
