CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, PA - The Omaha Lancers opened up the 2019-20 regular season with a win at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex 4-1 over the Madison Capitols.
In the first period, Noal Renwick (16:20) got the Lancers' first goal of the afternoon. Renwick shot the puck from the left-side wall, which hit and went in off of the glove of the Capitols Goaltender, Garrett Mackay.
In the second frame, Zach Plucinski (4:31) took a slapshot from the blue line to beat Mackay top-self. Plucinski received the pass from Steven Agriogianis who received the goals only assist. Minutes later and as the Lancers penalty kill expired, Alex Campbell raced into the Madison zone on a two-on-one with Rhett Pitlick. Campbell (7:42) shot the puck from the right-side sniping it in past Mackay, which resulted in a change of goalies.
In the final period, Matthew Sutton (3:09) found the puck loose in front of Simon Latkoczy to get the Lancers ahead 4-0. Grant Anderson and Ryan Lautenbach were called on the assists. Nearing the end of the period, and on the power-play, Carson Bantle scored to get the Capitols their lone goal on the afternoon.
Akira Schmid finished the afternoon in net stopping 22 of the 23 shots he faced.
The Lancers are now 1-0-0-0 to start the season and will faceoff tomorrow for their final game of the 2019 Fall Classic. Puck drop against the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders is scheduled for 1:00 pm EDT. All the action can be seen on HockeyTV.
