RALSTON, NE - The Omaha Lancers have announced a trade with the Sioux City Musketeers this afternoon. In the deal, the Lancers traded Goaltender Akira Schmid and a 2020 Phase II 5th Round Draft Pick to the Musketeers for a 2020 Phase II 1st Round Draft Pick.
Schmid, Bern, Switzerland native, is in his second USHL season. Last year, Schmid played in 37 games for the Lancers posting a 2.18 GAA and a .926 SV%. The netminder suffered a lower-body injury earlier this season where he was sidelined on Injury Reserve and only appeared in six games. In those six games, Schmid recorded a 3.01 GAA and a .891 SV%. Schmid is currently at the World Junior Challenge in the Czech Republic for his home country of Switzerland. Schmid was drafted in 2018 by the New Jersey Devils.
“Simply put, you cannot have two import goalies in the USHL,” General Manager and Head Coach David Wilkie said. “Akira did a terrific job for the Omaha Lancers. We wish him the best of luck moving forward.”
