RALSTON, NE - The Omaha Lancers battled throughout all three periods on Friday night to take a 5-4 deciding win against the Waterloo Black Hawks.
The Black Hawks opened up the period with two goals in the first six minutes of the night for a 2-0 score. It was not until on the power play when Ayrton Martino (7:30) netted his eighth goal of the season to get the Lancers on the board. Waterloo added another goal making it a 3-1 game when Schingoethe scored at 13:46. The Lancers added another goal from T.J. Schweighardt (15:51) as he scored his first of the season for a 3-2 score going into the first intermission.
In the second period, Owen Fowler (8:47) evened the game 3-3 with his sixth goal this season. The Black Hawks would take back the lead when LaStarza (12:33) made it a 4-3 score. The Lancers kept on the attack when Ryan Conroy (16:09) scored his first goal of the year to even the game 4-4.
In the third period, Nolan Renwick (10:47) would net what would be the game-winning goal after tipping in a shot from Matt Basgall. The Lancers are now 3-0 vs Waterloo this season and will see the Black Hawks again on Sunday at Young Arena. Jakub Dobes earned the win stopping 31 of the 35 shots he faced on the night.
The Lancers are now 17-14 on the season with 34 points and a spot at third in the USHL Western Conference.
The Lancers will host the Lincoln Stars in the fourth meetup between the two teams on Saturday at Ralston Arena. The opening puck drop is set for 6:05 PM.
