WATERLOO, IA - The Omaha Lancers fell in a shootout to the Waterloo Black Hawks on Sunday evening by a final score of 4-3.
The Black Hawks netted the lone goal in the first period when Alex Gaffney (10:48) scored from the right side circle. The Lancers evened up the game with Ayrton Martino (6:28) snipping the puck past Croteau in the second period. Waterloo took back the lead 2-1 when Dane Montgomery (12:54) snapped the puck between a Lancers defenseman's legs beating Dobes. Less than a minute after, Michael Posma (13:41) tipped the puck past Croteau to even the game 2-2.
In the third period, and on the penalty kill, Cam Mitchell (2:12) got the Lancers their first lead of the night, 3-2. Late in the final period of regulation, Szmagaj (15:22) evened the game 3-3 to force overtime.
After a scoreless overtime frame, the game went into a shootout. Ayrton Martino and Michael Posma were unsuccessful in the shootout, while both Black Hawk shooters scored a final score of 4-3.
The Lancers are now 18-14-0-1 on the year with 37 points and sit at second in the USHL West. Omaha and Waterloo will face each other again on Friday, February 26th at Ralston Arena. The opening puck drop is set for 7:05 PM.
