FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Cedar Rapids, IA – Drew DeRidder bounced back after being chased by the Lancers in the last meeting as the RoughRiders blanked the Lancers 3-0.
Cedar Rapids topped Omaha for the first time since November 3, 2012, and snapped a nine-game losing streak to the Lancers.
After no one was able to score in the opening period Cedar Rapids got the scoring started in the second. With the RoughRiders on the power play Tommy Nappier made the initial save on Marc McLaughlin the rebound kicked out to a waiting Robert Arrak. The Estonian forward shot the puck into a nearly empty net, catching Nappier across the crease. The goal only six seconds into the power play gave the RoughRiders a 1-0 lead after the first two periods. Cedar Rapids outshot the Lancers 17-13 through the first forty minutes.
At the start of the third the RoughRiders jumped out fast. Ben Foley’s shot from the right point found the stick of Jason Polin as he cut to the net. The forward tipped the puck past Nappier to give the RoughRiders a 2-0 lead early in the period. Cedar Rapids would add an empty netter as time wound down to skate away with a 3-0 victory.
Drew DeRidder made 23 saves claiming his second shutout of the season. Tommy Nappier made 23 saves on 25 shots in the loss.
