Ralston, NE – The USHL will hold the 2017 USHL Draft Monday and Tuesday, May 1 and 2. Phase One of the draft will take place Monday night beginning at 6 pm CT, while Phase Two will begin May 2 at 8 am CT.
The Lancers will pick ten times during Phase One, including the fourth overall pick in each round. On Tuesday the Lancers will begin the Phase Two draft picking 11 times in the first seven rounds including twice (4th, 9th) in the first round.
Players in the U-17 age bracket (2001 birth years) are eligible to be taken during Phase One. Last season Omaha used their first and second round picks to tender forwards Emilio Pettersen and Jack Randl. Tyler Carpenter (6th Round) and Mike Higgins (7th Round) were also taken in Phase One of the 2016 Draft and made their USHL debut this season.
Phase Two of the USHL Draft encompasses all junior eligible players between the 1997 and 2001 birth years that are currently not protected by a USHL team. Last season nine players selected by the Lancers during the 2016 Phase Two Draft (Connor Marshall, Brian Matthews, Alex Mehnert, Jake Paganelli, Pierce Crawford, Derek Hamelin, Zac Herrmann, Joe Berg, Brenden Rons) appeared in games for the Lancers.
Omaha will pick fourth and then owns the ninth pick, which was acquired in the Pierce Crawford trade from Youngstown.
