Cedar Rapids, IA -- The Omaha Lancers faced the Roughriders Saturday night at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena. Omaha was looking for their first win of the 2017-18 season and found it in full, winning 5-1 over Cedar Rapids.
Joseph Abate opened up the scoring for Omaha late in the first period. Abate had a breakaway opportunity and slid the puck past Cedar Rapids Goaltender, Jiri Patera. Cedar Rapids answered back with 2:07 left to play when Brad Stonnell scored on a power-play.
The Lancers kept on the attack throughout the second period. Ethan Price gave Omaha the lead when he found a deflected shot from Marshall Rifai and snuck it past Patera. The scoring continued later in the period when Brendan Furry wrapped around the back of the net to sneak it in to give Omaha a two-goal lead with 5:30 left to play. A minute later, Price snipped the puck past Patera again to give Omaha the lead 4-1.
Furry scored his second of the night off a pass from Jared Kucharek on the right wing. Furry then took it wide and scored on the backhand from the crease to seal the first win for the Lancers.
Omaha improves to 1-2 on the season. The Lancers return to play on Sunday when Tri-City visits the Ralston Arena at 5:05 pm.
