Dubuque, IA -- The Omaha Lancers traveled to Dubuque to take on the Fighting Saints Friday night at Mystique Community Ice Center.
In the first period, Dubuque snuck one past Zach Driscoll early. Chayse Primeau got the call on the goal that hit a few bodies and made its way into the net. The Fighting Saints got on the board again late in the period with a one-handed-put-away from Cole Guttman to give Dubuque a 2-0 lead heading into the first intermission.
In the second period, Dubuque kept on the attack with an early goal in the period. Taylor Schneider snapped the puck past Driscoll, which caused the Lancers to call on Christian Sbaraglia to take net for the rest of the game. Midway through the period, Joe Berg got on the board beating Jaxon Castor for a 2-1 score heading into the second intermission.
The third period was quiet until Christian O’Neill jammed the puck past Castor to get the Lancers within one goal with 5:30 left to play. A minute later though, Quinn Preston got Dubuque on the board again sliding the puck past a sprawled out Sbaraglia. Omaha pulled Sbaraglia for the extra attacker, but Dubuque took advantage of that and Tyce Thompson scored an empty-netter with 3:10 left. The Lancers did not let up though, as Christian O’Neill got his second of the night with 1:51 to go in the third. The Lancers came up short though when the final buzzer rang and fell to the Fighting Saints 5-3.
The Lancers return to the ice tomorrow to face the Madison Capitols tomorrow in Middleton, WI. Faceoff is at 6:05 pm and can be heard on News Talk 1290 and seen on Hockey TV.
