Middleton, WI -- The Omaha Lancers continued on their two-game road trip with a matchup against the Madison Capitols on Saturday night. The Lancers welcomed some new faces to the lineup as Vincent Purpura got the nod as net-minder for Omaha. Along with Purpura, Brandon Puricelli (IR) returned and Omaha Lancers affiliated, John Driscoll played his first game as a Lancer at defense on Saturday night.
In the first period, Cade Borchardt got on the board first with a shot that was over the shoulder of Vinnie Purpura. Madison continued to test the new goaltender as Kamil Sadlocha found the back of the net to give the Capitols a 2-0 lead to head into the first intermission.
After a scoreless second period, the Lancers turned up the heat. Early in the third, Hunter Carrick got the Lancers on the board. Carrick took a pass from Mick Kohler at the point and then took a slap shot from the blue line to beat Dryden McKay. Down by one goal and the period nearing the end, Noah Cates tied it up for Omaha. Cates took a rebound shot and snuck it past McKay.
In the overtime period, the Lancers kept it even with putting shots on net. But, were caught in a change that Madison took advantage of when Borchardt got the puck on a breakaway and snapped it past Purpura for the 3-2 Capitol win.
The Omaha Lancers return to the ice Friday, November 10th to face the Green Bay Gamblers at Ralston Arena. Tickets are still available and the game can be seen on Hockey TV and heard on KOIL News Talk 1290.
