Lancers Calm Storm

Omaha tops Tri-City,4-1


Kearney, NE -- The Omaha Lancers traveled west to take on an in-state rival the Tri-City Storm on Saturday night. The matchup was the fifth time these two teams have faced off against each other this season. Both teams came into Saturday nights matchup with 2 wins against one another. Omaha called on the veteran goaltender, Zach Driscoll to play between the pipes. Driscoll is ranked second among all goalies in the USHL with a record of 7-4-1, a 1.91 GAA and a .926 SV%. 

Ten seconds into the 1st period, Brendan Furry put the Lancers on the board scoring on Jake Barczewski. That was Furry’s 8th goal and 17th point. The scoring for Omaha continued when Christian O’Neill netted his 8th goal on the two-man advantage. O’Neill was assisted by Filip Suchy and Noah Cates on the play. The Storm answered back late in the period with a goal from Tyler Ward. Lancers lead 2-1 heading into the first intermission. 

Late in the second period, Christian O’Neill netted his second goal of the night with an assist from Jack Randl and Mathieu De St Phalle with 3:19 to play. Quickly after, Filip Suchy snipped his 12th goal with 1:38 in the second period with an assist from Cole Gallant. The Lancers lead 4-1 heading into the second intermission. 

After a scoreless third period, the Lancers took the win in Kearney, 4-1. The Lancers improve to 16-8-2 with 34 points in the Western Conference. 

Driscoll stopped 35 of the 36 Storm shots that he faced. Driscoll improves his record to 8-4-1.

Jack Randl, Travis Mitchell, and Head Coach David Wilkie will stay in Kearney in preparation for the NHL/USHL Top Prospects game. The Top Prospects game is Tuesday, January, 9th at 7:35 pm and can be seen on HockeyTv. The rest of the Omaha Lancers and Staff wish Wilkie, Randl, and Mitchell good luck.
