URBANDALE, IA -- The Lancers traveled east to take on the Des Moines Buccaneers on Saturday. Saturday is the fifth time these teams will face each other this season. Friday night was the first time out of the four previous meetings that Omaha has fallen to Des Moines, losing 3-0. The Lancers called on Zach Driscoll to play between the pipes. Driscoll is ranked second among all goaltenders in the USHL with a 1.99 GAA and a .926 SV%.
In the first period, Joe Berg got the Lancers on the board. Berg took the puck into the zone, drove the net and snuck the puck past Jake Kucharski. Omaha held the lead heading into the first intermission.
Noah Cates scored on the power play with 8:32 left to play in the second period. Near the end of the period, Brendan Furry got Omaha ahead 3-0 after a beautiful pass from Ethan Price and Mick Kohler.
In the third period, Noah Cates got his second of the night on a power play. Late in the period and on the penalty kill, Ethan Price scored for Omaha. With just 1:12 left to play, Will MacKinnon scored to take Driscoll’s shutout away from him. The Lancers took the win, 5-1.
Zach Driscoll stopped 27 of the 28 shots that he faced. The Lancers improve to 19-10-2-0 with 40 points.
