Ralston, NE -- The Omaha Lancers faced the Central Illinois Flying Aces for game two of the weekend doubleheader on Saturday. Omaha won Friday night’s matchup, 8-1. The Lancers called on Zach Driscoll to play between the pipes. Zach was named to the USHL’s Player of the Week honors this week for the third time. Driscoll is also ranked second in the USHL among goaltenders with a 1.79 GAA and a .935 SV%.
In the first period, Central Illinois scored two goals just seven minutes into the period. Jeremy Davidson and Bradley Marek both scored on Zach Driscoll. Omaha soon answered back. Travis Mitchell took a hard shot from the point when Brendan Furry found the puck and snuck it past Ryan Snowden. Then on the penalty kill, Filip Suchy stole the puck and scored on the breakaway to tie the game 2-2.
After a scoreless second period, in the third, Tyler Carpenter got the Lancers their first lead of the game. With under one minute to play, the Aces emptied their net for the extra attacker. Filip Suchy stole the puck in the Aces zone and sent it in. The Lancers took the 4-2 win and the sweep over the Flying Aces.
Zach Driscoll stopped 30 of the 32 shots that he faced.
The Lancers improved to 23-10-2-1 with 49 points. The Lancers are now first place in the Western Conference.
