Lincoln, NE - It was a rivalry battle Friday night as the Lancers traveled to Lincoln to face the Stars. It has been all Omaha this season, winning all four of the previous matchups against Lincoln. Omaha came into the night with a spot at first place in the USHL with a record of 27-10-2-1 and looking to continue their 9-0-0-1 streak. The Lancers gave Vinnie Purpura the green light to play between the pipes. Purpura is ranked second in the league among goaltenders with a 1.92 GAA and a .926 SV%.
In the first period, Hunter Carrick got the Lancers on the board taking a shot from the blueline to beat Tomas Vomacka. Lincoln later scored when Dominick Mersh snuck the puck past Vinnie Purpura. The game stayed tied 1-1 heading into the first intermission.
In the second period, Casey Dornbach scored to get the Stars ahead. Filip Suchy tied up the game though when took the puck down and put it in with one hand on the stick past Vomacka. Then the Lancers scored again when Brendan Furry tipped Carrick's slap shot into the net. Lincoln soon scored again when Paul Cotter tied it up 3-3.
In the third period, Vinnie Purpura was replaced by Zach Driscoll. With twenty seconds left and on the two-man advantage Filip Suchy nailed the puck past Vomacka to give the Lancers the 4-3 win.
Purpura stopped 17 of 20 shots and Driscoll stopped 11 of the 11 shots he faced.
The Lancers improve to 28-10-2-1 with 59 points and continue their streak to 10-0-01.
