FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
RALSTON, NE - The USHL announced the Forward, Defenseman, and Goaltender of the Week on Monday. For the fourth time this season, Zach Driscoll was named to the weekly honor. He shares this week's honors with Forward Tyce Thompson (Dubuque) and Defenseman Alex Yakovenko (Muskegon).
“It’s a cool individual award, but, I’m more excited about the hockey that we’re playing as a team,” Zach Driscoll said.
Driscoll has been hot in goal as of late earning two consecutive shutouts in his past two starts, bringing his total to eight on the season.
“We are very happy for Zach to win USHL goaltender of the week again,” Head Coach David Wilkie said. “Last week he was extremely dominant and he is certainly well deserving of this recognition.
The Bemidji State commit earned his seventh shutout of the season in Kearney on Wednesday. Driscoll stopped all 30 of the Storm shots to get the Lancers a 3-0 win.
Zach received the start on Saturday against the Des Moines Buccaneers where he marked his eighth shutout of the season. Driscoll stopped all 25 shots in that game to give Omaha the 2-0 win in Des Moines.
Driscoll now is the third all-time in recorded shutouts as an Omaha Lancer. He follows Dan Ellis 11, Marty Magers 10.
Driscoll has compiled an impressive 12-4-0-0 record in his last 16 starts and has won the past three games in a row. Zach has been named the Goaltender of the week three other times this season, Nov. 13, Jan. 8, and Jan. 29.
“We are happy for Zach to earn this league recognition once again, he deserves it,” Head Coach David Wilkie said.
Driscoll is ranked third among all goaltenders in the USHL. Zach currently has a 1.93 GAA and a .933 SV%. The veteran goaltender has a record of 21-9-1-1. Zach is excited for the team picking up momentum, as the Lancers are second in the USHL West with a record of 37-16-2-3, are on a 6-0-0-0 streak, and are 6-2-0-2 in their last 10 games.
“We had a little skid there. We came together and figured it out,” Driscoll said. “We are in a good spot heading into our last weekend heading into the playoffs.”
