Lincoln tops Omaha in Preseason Opener, 6-2

Ralston, NE - The Lancers were defeated by the Lincoln Stars by a final score of 6-2 Friday night at Ralston Arena. Lancer's goaltenders Vinnie Purpura and Christian Sbaraglia both played during the first game of the preseason.

In the first period, Lincoln took a two-goal lead over the Omaha. Devlin McCabe (3:42) found the back of the net on Vinnie Purpura. Later in the period with the Stars on the powerplay, Josiah Slavin (15:27) netted a backhand shot to give Lincoln a 2-0 lead heading into the first intermission.

Omaha answered back in the second period. Jaxon Nelson (1:39) got Omaha on the board with a backdoor pass from Andre Ghantous to beat Wouter Peeters. Travis Mitchell (9:46) shot the puck from the top of the right circle to tie the game 2-2. Lincoln turned the game back into their favor with two goals to end the period and take a 4-2 lead scoring on Christian Sbarglia.

The third period was all Lincoln as the Stars scored two goals to take the win and a final score of 6-2.

Vinnie Purpura stopped 7 of the 9 shots he faced and allowed 2 goals. Christian Sbaraglia stopped 10 of the 14 he faced allowing 4 goals.

The Lancers will face the Tri-City Storm Saturday, September 15th at 7:05 pm at Ralston Arena.
