RALSTON, NE - The Omaha Lancers fell to the Sioux Falls Stampede Saturday night at Ralston Area with a final score of 3-1.
Goaltenders Zach Borgiel made his debut in the black and orange. Borgiel (2000) came to Omaha in exchange for a tenth-round pick in the 2019 USHL Phase II Draft from the Muskegon Lumberjacks.
The Lancers entered Saturday nights game following a loss to the Lincoln Stars. The Lancers first goal came on the power-play from Jaxon Nelson (12:38) assisted by Brian Silver and Travis Mitchell. The goal was Nelson’s second of the preseason and first against his ex-team. The Lancers held off the Stampede for the remainder of the 1st period, taking a 1-0 lead into the intermission.
After a scoreless second period, the Stampede erased the 1 goal lead set by the Lancers. Just 1:54 into the 3rd period, Ryan Sullivan scored a short-handed goal to tie the game 1-1. Moments later the Stampede took a 2-1 lead when Jared Westcott scored as he drove across the net and slide the puck through Borgiel. The Lancers pulled Borgiel for the extra attacker nearing the end of the period but were unsuccessful as the Stampede capitalized on the empty to take the 3-1 win.
Zach Borgiel stopped 24 of 26 shots.
The Lancers continue their preseason with a game against the Tri-City Storm (2-1-0-0) on Sunday, September 15th at Ralston Arena for the final game of the I-80 Cup. Puck drop is at 4:05 pm and coverage can be seen on HockeyTV.
Omaha begins their regular season at home on Saturday, October 6th vs the Tri-City Storm. Single-game tickets will go on sale Monday, September 17th at 10:00 am.
