Ralston, NE - The Omaha Lancers announced Monday the finalization of its roster days before the 2018-19 regular season. The Lancers will start the regular season this Saturday at the USHL Fall Classic in Cranberry Township, PA. The Lancers will face the Waterloo Black Hawks on Saturday, September 29th and Team USA 18U on Sunday, September 30th.
The Lancers 2018-19 squad will feature returning players like forwards Brendan Furry and Mathieu De St Phalle, as well as defenseman Travis Mitchell and Grant Anderson along with goaltender Vinnie Purpura.
Furry lead all returning players with 40 points (17 goals, 23 assists) last season in his rookie year. De St Phalle, a late pickup for Omaha from the Sioux City Musketeers, finished second among returning forwards with 27 points (6 goals, 21 assists). Mitchell returns after having a +17 rating during the 2017-18 season along with finishing the year with 14 points (4 goals, 10 assists). Purpura finished last year with a 13-4-1-2 record, a 2.40 GAA and a .916 SV%.
The roster also includes players with USHL experience such as forward Jaxon Nelson (112 games played with Sioux Falls), and Austen Long (133 games played in the USHL with Tri-City, Chicago, and Lincoln).
The Lancers added new talent to the roster including forwards Jan Kern, Andy Stoneman, Jerry Harding, Cooper Fensterstock, and two tendered forwards, Cam Berg and Chase Bradley. Defensively the Lancers added John Prokop, Nolan McElhaney, and in net Lance Leonard and Brian George.
The Lancers also made a number of trades on Monday morning, gaining forward Andy Stoneman from the Waterloo Black Hawks in exchange for a 2019 Phase II 4th round pick. Omaha added goaltender Lance Leonard from the Lincoln Stars in exchange for a 2020 Phase I 6th round pick. The Lancers also picked up defenseman Nolan McElhaney from the Muskegon Lumberjacks for a 2020 Phase II 8th round pick.
The Lancers have also sent Michael Mannara to the Vernon Vipers (BCHL), Luke Mountain to Maryland (NAHL), Trevor Peca to Buffalo (OJHL) and have released Christian Sbaraglia. The Lancers placed Austen Long and Brendan Furry to the Injury Reserve.
