Cranberry Township, PA - The Omaha Lancers fell to the Waterloo Black Hawks, 3-1 in the first game of the 2018-19 season at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex of the 2018 Fall Classic.
After a scoreless first period, the Black Hawks got on the board first. Matt Koopman (0:14) snuck the puck under the legs of Vinnie Purpura. Minutes later, Brian Silver (2:58) answered back for the Lancers. The defenseman, who was playing forward on the night, snapped the puck past the shoulder of Jared Moe. The game stayed tied at 1 heading into the second intermission.
In the third period, the Black Hawks took the lead back when Griffin Ness (1:38) scored on Purpura. The Black Hawks kept on the attack through the period and scored again when the Lancers turned over the puck in their own zone. Jan Kern passed the puck directly to Xander Lamppa who then passed it to Ryan Drkulec (18:37) to scored backdoor. The Black Hawks beat the Lancers with a final score of 3-1.
Purpura stopped 16 of the 19 Black Hawks shots that he faced.
The Lancers are now 0-1-0-0 to start off the 2018-19 season and return to the ice on Sunday to face Team USA NTDP. Puck drop is at 4:00 pm ET and can be seen on HockeyTV.
