Cranberry Township, PA - The Omaha Lancers were defeated last second by Team USA NTDP U18 squad by a final score of 2-1.
In the first period, USA took the lead on their first power-play opportunity. Judd Caulfield (9:47) scored on a one-timer that was sent by Jack Hughes to beat Purpura to the right sidebar. Team USA held on to the 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
In the second period, the Lancers evened up the score 1-1. Tyler Carpenter (8:17) took the puck across the crease, waited and jammed it past the stick of Spencer Knight.
In the dying seconds of the third period, Domenick Fensore (19:50) sniped the puck past Purpura to give Team USA the 2-1 win. Purpura stopped 34 of the 36 USA shots that he faced.
The Lancers return to the ice to face the Lincoln Stars on Friday, October 5th at the Ice Box. Puck drop is set for 7:05 pm and the action can be heard on the Lancers flagship station KOIL News-Talk 1290 AM and seen on HockeyTV.
