Lancers lose in shootout to Storm

Omaha dropped 2-1 lead in third period forcing OT, Shootout Loss to Storm

RALSTON, NE - The Omaha Lancers were defeated in a shootout, 3-2 by the Tri-City Storm in the second meet up of the week on Friday night at Ralston Arena.

In the first period, the Storm got on the board first. Joel Molenaar (5:02) scored his third goal of the season. The Lancers answered back quickly when Brian Silver (6:46) tipped in the puck past Jake Barczewski. The goal was Silver’s third on the season. The game stayed tied 1-1 going into the first intermission.

The Lancers broke the tie in the second period on the power-play. Jan Kern (14:50) sent the puck past Barczewski for his fourth goal on the season. The Lancers kept the 2-1 lead going into the second intermission.

In the third period, Ian Murphy (3:39) evened up the game. Neither team scored again in the final frame, followed by a scoreless overtime period that forced a shootout. In the shootout, the Storm scored 2 out of 3 chances to beat the Lancers by a final score of 3-2. Vinnie Purpura stopped 26 of the 28 Tri-City shots he faced. The Lancers are now 3-4-0-1 with 7 points.

The Lancers return to the ice on Saturday, October 27th to face the Des Moines Buccaneers (6-4-0-0) for Scare Away Cancer Night. Puck drop is at 7:05 pm and all of the action can be seen on HockeyTV and heard on KOIL 1290 AM.
