Five Goal Third Period sends Buccaneers past Lancers, 8-3

RALSTON, NE - The Lancers were defeated by the Des Moines Buccaneers on Saturday night at Ralston Arena by a final score of 8-3.

The Buccaneers took the lead on their first power play opportunity of the game. Mac Welsher (8:55) chipped the puck into an open net as Vinnie Purpura was knocked down inside of the crease. Later in the period, Rylee St. Onge (18:44) snapped the puck past Purpura on the 2-on-1 opportunity to get the Buccaneers ahead 2-0. Nearing the dying seconds of the period, Logan Will (19:09) tipped the puck into the net off of a shot from Travis Mitchell. The Lancers trailed 2-1 heading into the first intermission.

In the second period, Bryce Brodzinski (1:04) tied the game 2-2 with his first USHL goal. Brendan Furry wrapped the puck around Durham’s net, banked it off of his leg pads and Brodzinski snapped the puck in the net. The Buccaneers scored again near the end of the period. Tony Malinowski took a shot from the blue line that was tipped off of the stick of Luke Manning (16:45) to give the Buccaneers a 3-2 lead going into the second intermission.

In the third period, Mike Colella (8:39) tipped the puck off of a shot from Cam Berg to tie the game 3-3. The Buccaneers broke open the game and scored 5 goals in four minutes and forty-four seconds. The Buccaneers defeated the Lancers by a final score of 8-3.  

The Lancers return to the ice on Friday, November 2nd at the Ice Box to face the Lincoln Stars. Puck drop is at 7:05 pm and can be heard on KOIL News Talk 1290 AM and HockeyTV.
