Lancers make a trade with Steel

RALSTON, NE - The Omaha Lancers announced a trade deal with the Chicago Steel on Thursday afternoon.

The Lancers have traded forward Mathieu De St Phalle (2000) and a 2020 7th Round Phase II Pick. In return, the Steel traded forward Cole Kodsi (2000), a 2019 1st Round Phase 1 Pick and a 2019 5th Round Phase II Pick.

“Mathieu is a tremendous human being and we wish him well,” Head Coach David Wilkie said.

De St Phalle came to the Lancers during the 2017-18 season during the USHL winter break from the Sioux City Musketeers. Mathieu played 20 games with the Musketeers and totaled 6 points. The Kildeer, IL native then joined the Lancers and played 35 games last season and went on a tear scoring 5 goals and dishing out 16 assists. This year, the Wisconsin commit has played in all 9 games and has recorded 4 points (1-3-4).

Kodsi is in his second season in the USHL spending most of the 2017-18 season with the New Jersey Avalanche U18 and 18U squads. During the 2017-18 season, the Boca Raton, FL native played in 9 games with the Steel recording 2 points (1-1-2). This season, the Michigan State commit has played in 7 games with the Steel scoring 1 goal on the season. The 6’2” 185-pound forward has had a taste of winning championships; 2016-17 AYHL 16U National Championship, named 2017-18 AYHL (Premier) All-American Forward, AYHL 18U (Premier) Champion, and a T1EHL U18 Champion.

“Cole is a big player in stature but also plays big,” Coach Wilkie said. “We felt that we needed more speed and grit in the Western Conference this season. Cole brings that to Omaha.”

The Lancers return to the ice Friday to face the Lincoln Stars at the Ice Box. Puck drop is set for 7:05 pm. All of the action can be heard on KOIL Newstalk 1290 AM and seen on HockeyTV.
