RALSTON, NE - The Omaha Lancers defeated the Cedar Rapids Roughriders on Sunday evening at Ralston Arena by a final score of 5-4.
The Roughriders took the first goal of the game just forty-five-seconds into the opening period. The Lancers answered back when Aaron White (1:57) scored the first goal of his USHL career. Moments later, the Roughriders took the lead back when Joe Hankinson (2:19) beat Akira Schmid. On the first power-play of the night, Brendan Furry (5:51) fired the puck from the circle to get the game tied up 2-2. The Roughriders capitalized late in the period on the power-play to reclaim the lead, 3-2 going into the first intermission. The Lancers pulled Schmid at 7:26 and called on Brian George in to relieve Schmid to finish out the first period.
In the second period, Jerry Harding (9:36) scored on the power-play to get the game tied 3-3. The Lancers continued on the attack as Cole Kodsi (10:20) found the back of the net and then on another power-play chance Jan Kern (12:05) got the loose puck past Pietila. The Roughriders scored a goal later in the period (16:08) to get within one goal. The Lancers then pulled George and brought Schmid back into the game. The Lancers lead 5-4 heading into the second intermission.
After a scoreless third period, the Lancers held on to defeat the Roughriders 5-4. The Lancers improve to 6-8-0-1 with 13 points.
The Lancers return to the ice on Friday, November 16th to face Team USA NTDP 18’s. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:35 pm and all of the action can be heard on KOIL Newstalk 1290 AM and HockeyTv.
