RALSTON, NE - The Omaha Lancers announce moves to the 2018-19 roster on Wednesday morning.
The Lancers have traded goaltender Vinnie Purpura (1998) to the Youngstown Phantoms. In return, the Lancers gain a 2019 4th Round Phase II Draft Pick. Purpura was traded to the Lancers last season from the Johnstown Tomahawks of the North American Hockey League. The Boston University Commit had 31 starts for the Lancers.
“Vinnie did a terrific job as a Lancer,” Head Coach David Wilkie stated. “He was a big part of our team success last season and we wish him the very best moving forward in his hockey career.”
The Lancers received goaltender Akira Schmid (2000) from the Corpus Christi Icerays for future considerations. Schmid, is a 2018 NHL 5th round #136 overall draft pick to the New Jersey Devils. The Bern, Switzerland native, has played in 5 games with Omaha and has recorded a 2.95 GAA and a .910 SV%.
“Akira is an elite goalie and we are very fortunate to be able to get him to Omaha this year, “ Wilkie said.
The Lancers have also assigned Michael Colella (1999) back to PAL Islanders of the NCDC. Colella played in 10 games with the Lancers totaling 3 points.
The Lancers return to the ice on Friday, November 16th to face Team USA NTDP 18’s. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:35 pm and all of the action can be heard on KOIL Newstalk 1290 AM and HockeyTv.
