LINCOLN, NE - The Omaha Lancers fell to the Lincoln Stars at the Ice Box on Friday night by a final score of 4-2.
Lincoln scored first in the opening frame on the power play when Shane Pinto (4:13) scored one a one-time-shot past, Jake Kucharski. The Lancers answered back near the end of the period as Christian DiCesare (11:36) scored from the blue line. The goal was DiCesare’s first of his USHL career. The game stayed tied 1-1 going into the first intermission.
The Stars scored two consecutive goals in the second period to gain a 3-1 lead. Austen Long (13:10) found the back of the net to get the Lancers within 1 goal. The play started with Kale Eriksson getting the puck to Aleksi Peltonen to the right side of Tyler Johnson’s net. Peltonen held on and found Long to the left side of the goal to score backdoor on Johnson. Lincoln held the 3-2 lead heading into the final intermission.
In the third period, the game stayed 3-2. With 1:30 to play, the Lancers pulled Akira Schmid, who took the place of Jake Kucharski in the second period. The Lancers kept on the attack until Matthew Barbolini (19:11) sent the puck from the Lincoln end into the empty net. Lincoln took their first win against Omaha on the season by a final score of 4-2. The Lancers are now 6-12-0-2 and sit at 8th place in the USHL Western Conference.
The Lancers return to action on Saturday, December 8th to face the Chicago Steel at Fox Valley Arena. Puck drop is scheduled at 7:05 pm and can be seen on HockeyTV.
