URBANDALE, IA - The Omaha Lancers took down the Des Moines Buccaneers in a shootout on Saturday night at Buccaneer Arena with a final score of 5-4.
In the first period, Cole Kodsi got the Lancers on the board at 13:18. The goal was the fifth of the year for Kodsi. Later into the period and on the power-play, Rylee St. Onge scored to tie the game 1-1 at 18:40.
In the second period, Harry Roy scored on the backhand to beat Durham and to give the Lancers a 2-1 lead at 13:33. The Buccaneers answered back though when Kirby Proctor scored at 16:27 to tie the game 2-2. The Lancers took back the lead late into the period on the power-play. Aleksi Peltonen scored his 5th goal of the season after finding the puck loose to the side of Durham. Omaha kept the 3-2 lead going into the second intermission.
In the third period, Rylee St. Onge evened the game 3-3 with his second goal of the night at 10:13. Omaha took the lead again when Jaxon Nelson snapped the puck past Durham to get the Lancers ahead 4-3 at 17:50. Des Moines did not let up as Jack Clement tied the game 4-4 near the end of the period at 18:06 to force overtime.
Neither team scored in the extra frame which forced a shootout. Harry Roy and Travis Mitchell scored in the shootout to give the Lancers the win, 5-4 over the Buccaneers. Jon Mor stopped 35 of the 39 shots he faced earning his first win as a Lancers. The Lancers are now 9-18-1-3 on the season with 22 points.
The Lancers return for the final game of the three-game weekend with a tilt against the Tri-City Storm on Sunday, January 13th. Puck drop is scheduled for 4:05 pm. The Lancers ask fans to bring new or gently used sporting equipment to be collected by Operation NETS to be handed out to youth in the Omaha Metro Area.
