WATERLOO, IA - The Waterloo Black Hawks flew past the Omaha Lancers on Thursday night at Young Ice Arena by a final score of 5-1.
In the first period, the Black Hawks took the lead on the power play. Joey Cassetti was called on the goal at 12:55. The Black Hawks kept the 1-0 lead going into the first intermission.
The scoring continued late into the second period when Emil Ohrvall snapped the puck past Schmid off of the faceoff draw at 16:04. The Lancers pushed back to get the game within one goal when Harry Roy scored at 17:56. Roy took a pass from Ryan Savage crossing into the attacking zone to snipe it past Logan Stein’s left shoulder. The Black Hawks extended their lead quickly after the Lancers goal at 18:41 when Ohrvall scored his second of the night to give Waterloo the 3-1 lead.
In the third period, the Black Hawks capitalized on two power-play chances to take a 5-1 win over the Lancers. Omaha is now 11-19-1-3 on the year. Akira Schmid stopped 39 of the 44 shots he faced.
The Lancers return to the ice on Saturday, January 26th against the reigning Eastern Conference Champions the Youngstown Phantoms for game one of the weekend series. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 pm at Ralston Arena. All the action can be heard on KOIL 1290 AM radio and seen on HockeyTV.
