RALSTON, NE - The Omaha Lancers defeated the Des Moines Buccaneers by a final score of 4-2 on Saturday night.
In the first period, the Buccaneers outshot the Lancers in the first period 12 to 7, but neither team was able to find the back of the net.
It was not until the second period that the goal light shined on the Lancers. Cole Kodsi (12:41) found the puck lo to the side of Roman Durny’s cage to score and get Omaha ahead 1-0. The Lancers capitalized on their third power play try of the night when Travis Mitchell (15:01) hammered the puck from the blue line into the net. The Buccaneers answered back soon after as Rylee St. Onge (16:36) jammed the puck in past Jon Mor. Later into the middle frame, Grant Anderson ripped a shot from the right point that was tipped in by Brian Silver (18:19) to give the Lancers a 3-1 lead.
In the third period, the Buccaneers answered back with a goal from Johnny Russell (5:05) to get the score at 3-2. Near the end of the period, the Buccaneers pulled Durny to get the extra attacker on the ice. Aleksi Peltonen (19:12) brought the puck from coast to coast to tap it into the empty net to shut the door on Des Moines and take the 4-2 win. Jon Mor stopped 36 of the 38 Des Moines shots he faced.
The Lancers improve to 17-19-3-4 on the year with 41 points.
