SIOUX FALLS, SD - The Omaha Lancers fell short to the Sioux Falls Fighting Wiener Dogs on Saturday night in overtime by a final score of 5-4. The Lancers fought back against the Wiener Dogs after trailing 3-1 going into the third period. The Lancers would score unanswered goals to take a 4-3 lead in the third. But, the Fighting Wiener Dogs would bite back to tie up the game and win in overtime, 5-4.
In the first period, the Wiener Dogs would go up on the Lancers 2-0. Goals in the first frame came from Carl Berglund (8:51) and Jaden Shields (11:02).
In the second period, the Wiener Dogs went ahead 3-0 on the Lancers when Jami Krannila (8:20). The Lancers got on the board late in the period when Tyler Carpenter (10:44) put in a loose puck that was shot on net from Jackson Decker. The game would be notched 3-1 going into the second intermission.
In the third period, the Lancers strung three goals together to take a 4-3 lead. On the power-play, Jaxon Nelson (6:47) poke-checked the shot he took into the net. Seconds later, Blais Richartz (7:01) ripped the puck from the left circle into the cage. Then on the second power play of the period, Jan Kern (10:22) tipped the puck to get the Lancers ahead 4-3. Nearing the end of the period, Jaden Shields (16:41) sniped the puck past Jon Mor to even the game 4-4 and forced overtime.
In the extra frame, Jared Westcott (4:23) scored on a two-on-one chance to get the Wiener Dogs the win and full two points with a 5-4 final score. The Lancers took a point in the Saturday night showdown and are now 18-19-4-4 on the year with 44 points.
