Housing Families

The relationship shared between players, host families, player’s families and the Lancers coaches and staff can last a lifetime.

Each year dozens of local families open their homes to 27 of the finest amateur hockey players in the country.  These selfless families provide a vital service to the success of the Omaha Lancers hockey organization.  The Lancers are always looking for a few more families to take in a player and provide a warm, welcoming environment for the student/athletes.

National Hockey League players Paul Stastny, Patrick Wiercioch, Keith Ballard, Erik Haula and others all went through the Housing Program.

The Lancers operate year-round by placing emphasis on athletic, academic and social development in order to allow players success at the highest levels.  We take incredible pride in being the driving force in the development of our players.  But more importantly is the pride in developing these young men into honest, disciplined individuals who are committed to excellence both on and off the ice.

Players range in age from 16 to 20 years, with the majority being 17 to 19 years old.  They travel to Omaha from all over the United States, as well as Canada and Europe.  Players normally arrive in late August to early September, and could possibly stay as long as mid-May, depending upon our success in the USHL Clark Cup Playoffs.

The players’ schedule is full and demanding.  It requires participating in 80 to 90 games per season, daily on-ice practice sessions, intense physical workouts, community service events, and other areas of interest throughout the season.

The Omaha Lancers have long been a breeding ground for players heading to NCAA Division-1 hockey programs. Unmatched in recent years, 300 plus Lancers players have gone on to play collegiate hockey at some of the most prestigious programs in the country.  Additionally, 28 Lancers have gone on to the NHL.
